More often than not, people are happy to relax by the pool, covered adults-only Solarium area, or the gorgeous top-deck lawn. Yes, Celebrity Equinox isn’t the newest ship — but it’s hardly old. There was, however, much to do onboard; the activities and entertainment were a little different on this ship. People shouldn’t confuse their focus on quality and elegance for pretention. The crew was incredibly friendly and helpful, the vibe of the ship was relaxed, and everyone seemed to be chatting with everyone. This is a great itinerary and ship for 40 plus, but I am not so sure for families with kids or young adults looking to party all night. These islands are characterized by sweeping vistas, volcanic peaks, and numerous beaches.
Royal suites offer living, dining and sleeping areas, and are some of the best-decorated and most stylish options on the ship. Royal suites measure in at 590 square feet of interior space, with 153 square feet of outdoor space. Veranda staterooms offer much the same décor as ocean view staterooms, but with more floor space, and large, glass doors that lead out to your veranda. Sunset veranda rooms come with private verandas in some of the best spots on the ship, for the best views possible.
With a capacity of 2,852 guests and a wide range of amenities for all ages, Celebrity Equinox draws passengers of all types, from solo travelers to couples and groups of friends. However, while families do sail on Equinox during school breaks, and there are kids' clubs, children are not the focus on this ship. (In fact, the kids’ areas are all on Deck 15, away from most public spaces.) A collection of edgy and engaging modern art, with a living tree suspended in the atrium, sets an adult vibe. While there's an outdoor main pool, it's relatively small; significant real estate is given to the calm adults-only Solarium with yet another pool. If that sounds sophisticated for a cruise ship, then you're correct. There's also an exclusive pre-departure lounge onboard with free coffee and juices for passengers staying in Concierge Class or above cabins.
An LGBTQ social hour is held nightly at the always popular Martini Bar. Celebrity Rox, a dance party out on the pool deck featuring live performances from the cast of the Equinox Theater, is held once per cruise. Renovations also received the Solarium and Pool Deck (deck 10). Upgrades were also made to all crew areas (cabins, gym, recreational spaces, outdoor bar lounge, laundry facilities). Ocean view staterooms are slightly better, décor-wise, and offer spacious couches and sitting areas, with large, rectangular windows on one side of the cabin wall, nearer the couch. Impressive digital enhancements were also added, including the RFID lock technology and pervasive Xcelerate Wi-Fi.
In addition to the produced onboard shows, well-respected headlining acts include guest singers and musicians, magicians and theatrical productions. This cruise was an incredible deal for me and was a different kind of cruise experience. There are no waterslides, arcades, waterparks or other activities many people expect on big cruise ships. There is a kids club, but on my sailing, I only saw three kids. I peeked in on my bright ocean view cabin, which was compact but well-designed.
